Parkbridge Flag

Good Afternoon to all Residents,

Every time the flag situation at the hall changes, a raft of questions crop up, and it seems like I am the one who is supposed to know the answers.  Well I don’t know all the answers but I do know what I know to be true.

Here are my answers to ongoing questions regarding the flag at the hall

Why don’t we fly the Canadian flag at the hall?

I want to remind everyone that we are living on private property and all we own here is our homes.  We don’t get to decide what flags fly in this community.  Parkbridge has the choice of what flags fly and where.  If certain members of the community want to start an organized protest against Parkbridge to fly a Canadian flag you are well within your legal rights to assemble peacefully and do that.

Can the Canadian flag be flown at half staff for a private citizen?

I have researched this several times as someone who has been asked this same question many times.  I have found no indication in any document that allows a Canadian Flag to be flown at half mast for a private citizen.  The Canadian flag is only flown at half mast for Canadian dignitaries according to documents produced by our government.  If anyone can show me an official document to the contrary please produce it.  Otherwise, breaking Canadian protocol is against my standards.   I will remind you that we have been allowed to lower the community flag for many years in honour of our deceased residents.  If you choose to compromise this activity by complaining to management we could lose that right.

Kind regards,
Dave Backshall
