Obituary of Shirley Ann Smith

Passed away peacefully with family by her side on June 17, 2025 at the age of 77. Beloved spouse and best friend of Ron Cortiula for 23 wonderful years. Loving mother to Don Smith (Pam) and Tom Smith (Christine). Proud Nana and Grandma to Maverick, Cassandra, Holly, and Lyall, and great-grandmother to Luca, Reyn, and Elizabeth. Cherished sister to Joyce Green (Brian) and Les Knight (Wendy), and aunt to many nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by Ron’s children, Mike and Ashley Cortiula. Shirley was a proud member of the Black Creek community and will be dearly missed by her many friends and neighbours.

Shirley was born and raised in Vineland, and spent many years working on the family fruit farm before dedicating herself to greenhouse work. Known for her expertise in propagation, Shirley contributed her talents to Gilbert Greenhouse, Hendriks Greenhouses, and later retired from Sunrise Greenhouses. Shirley will be remembered for her congenial personality and her love of cooking.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kim Scher and the compassionate staff at Douglas Memorial Hospital for their care and support.

In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
