To All Residents

To All Residents,

We are entering another phase of the continuing project of developing a plan to ensure the safety of our residents in the event of an emergency such as we experienced last Christmas.  Thank you all for your cooperation with our Block Captains in filling out the information forms indicating your special needs and your ability to survive during a life threatening blizzard coupled with a power outage. In spite of the extremely traumatic experiences of some residents we survived what could have been a disastrous Christmas.  A database has now been developed that can access the vulnerabilities of every resident who filled out the forms.

We have now developed a Red Card system whereby residents can indicate they are in a dire emergency situation or are in need of medical assistance.   Some of you may already have received a red card from your block captain.  If you haven’t received one yet you will very shortly.  These cards are to be used in specific situations when you are in a crisis situation and are not able to call 911 (due to a power outage or you don’t have a cell phone).  If you are able to put them in your window a passerby can offer assistance by going to your door to see if they can help in some way, or call 911 themselves if there is no response.  They are not to be used frivolously or for non-emergency situations.  Think of it as a first step to a 911 call.  If it is abused there will be consequences.  On the other hand it could save your life.

This is one of many projects the Emergency Task Force are working on to make your community a safer place to live.

Thank you,

Dave Backshall, Block Captain Coordinator.
