The Following is from an email sent out from our MP Wayne Gates. We felt it would be a service to the community to pass it along to our residents
I wanted to provide another update on our community’s efforts to recover from this horrible winter storm. A big thank you to all Town of Fort Erie staff & road crews, as well as all community members who contributed equipment where necessary. Town road crews have been working to continue to clear roads, and they have begun to remove stranded & abandoned vehicles. Vehicles are being taken to the Leisureplex parking lot for their owners to retrieve them. Transit services have resumed, and folks can call 1-833-BUS-LINE to book a ride – rides to the Leisureplex warming station are still available & free. Workers from CNP have been working diligently to restore power. CNP is reminding residents that they may have to allow intermittent power stoppages, so that their workers can safely restore and repair hydro lines & equipment. CNP is also asking residents to allow ample space when passing them by in traffic. The Town also offers a driveway snow windrow clearing program for folks living with physical disabilities and/or severe medical conditions. For more information, please visit the Town website. I have been in constant communication with the Town of Fort Erie Mayor and the Regional Chair of Niagara on resolving these issues. I have also spoke directly to the provincial Minister of Energy about the situation. I have been reliably informed that the Minister of Municipal Affairs is also aware of the situation. A final reminder: please clear your outdoor furnace vents and water heaters to make sure they are clear or snow. Carbon monoxide is odourless and tasteless, but can lead to serious harm, including death. THANK YOU to all first responders, hydro, line, infrastructure & health care workers, Town staff, community agencies, and all concerned neighbours, families & friends for everything you have done over the last few days. We will get through this. |
