Active Aging Canada
Ok, it’s time to face facts…we are all aging and how we manage this is up to us. Health issues and declining mobility become priority issues.
If nothing else this last 2 years has shown us is that we need to be less dependent on our health care system to ‘fix’ us. Yes, we will have health issues that need to be treated by professional health care especially as we age. They diagnose and suggest methods of treatment, the rest, quite often, is ultimately up to us.
How many times have you heard the phrase ‘We need to be more active?’. This immediately brings visions of extreme exercise programs, heading out to a gym, expensive machines for home use, etc.
Here in our community, we are fortunate to have a facility where we can get together for many activities that promote physical good health without the need for extensive equipment. This is wonderful not only for our bodies, but the social aspect is also part of being active. There are even ways to increase your mobility, strength, balance, general wellbeing right at home with simple easy to do movements.
One very helpful online resource with trusted Health and Activity information is Active Aging Canada https://www.activeagingcanada.ca/ . It’s full of helpful information on all aspects of aging (physical, medical, mental). Check out their ‘daily dose’ routine for easily building flexibility, balance, etc.
Another great resource for information is the Alzheimer’s Society of Niagara. Here is the link to their site. https://alzheimer.ca/niagara/en
